Deflecting electromagnet device
Description
The present invention concerns an improvement of a deflecting electromagnet device for deflecting progressing direction of charged particles in a charged particle accelerator. That is, the deflecting electromagnet device generates magnetic fields to magnetic poles by supplying electric current to coils wound around a york, to deflect the charged particles by the magnetic fields. Tetrode shim coils are disposed between the magnetic poles for eliminating the slope of the magnetic fields. With such a constitution, the magnetic fields between the magnetic poles are formed as the sum of residual magnetic fields and magnetic fields formed by the shim coils. Accordingly, uniform magnetic field distribution with no slope of the magnetic fields can be attained. As a result, a betatron frequency can be kept constant during acceleration of charged particles.
