Solidification method for radioactive iodine containing-waste
Description
Upon solidification of adsorbent which adsorbed and collected radioactive iodine, especially, iodine-containing wastes containing long half life I-129 generated in spent nuclear fuel reprocessing plants, granular radioactive iodine-containing wastes and metal powders which are corrosion resistant under processing circumstances of solids are mixed, and then the mixture is filled in a metal capsule, and they are wholly subjected to a hot hydrostatic pressure (HIP) treatment to form solid materials. In the present invention, the mixture comprising metal powders which are corrosion resistant under circumstances of processing solids, for example, in a deep stratum and radioactive iodine-containing wastes are processed. Accordingly, since materials to be processed free from water are subjected to the HIP process, dense solids can be obtained. (T.M.)
