Description
The existence of comprehensive and internally consistent model predictions for a very wide range of phenomena in sd-shell nuclei creates a positive feedback loop for experimental studies on these systems. Through the model wave functions, every matrix element is linked to every other. Every measurement is thus important and meaningful in the advance towards increasing our understanding of nuclear structure on the whole and in improving the accuracy and reliability of model wave functions. The final limits of accuracy in the type of approach discussed here are not easily estimated at present, but the current achievements can certainly be surpassed if the appropriate experimental edifice is built on the existing foundations.
