Heavy ion stripping by wrinkled carbon foils
Description
We report on measurements performed at Argonne to study the properties of wrinkled foils produced by the technique that was first developed at Daresbury. Foil lifetimes and transmission properties were measured under exposure to a 3 MeV /sup 84/ Kr beam at the Argonne Dynamitron accelerator, and to an 8 MeV /sup 58/ Ni beam at the terminal of the Argonne FN tandem. Energy loss straggling was measured by the time-of-flight method utilizing the picosecond beam bunching system of the Argonne superconducting heavyion linear accelerator
