Disposal of radwastes and recycling of wastes and structural materials -fundamental principles, concepts, results

Description

This report describes the German concept for the disposal of radioactive waste, and the re-use or recycling of contaminated materials. All radioactive waste can be disposed of in deep geological formations (practised at ERAM disposal site, planned for Konrad disposal site). Radioactively contaminated material below clearance levels can proceed for disposal at waste disposal sites and incineration plants, or for re-use and recycling, especially where the material consists of contaminated steel and of buildings. The basic principles (dose limits and model structures for deriving recommendations), reference values, or limits are described. The latest concepts are described in greater detail. Waste management in Germany is compared with international concepts. (orig.)

Abstract (German)

Der Bericht beschreibt das deutsche Konzept der Entsorgung von schwach radioaktiv kontaminierten bis hin zu hochradioaktiven Abfaellen: Alle radioaktiven Abfaelle koennen prinzipiell in tiefen geologischen Schichten endgelagert werden, wie im Endlager in Morsleben (ERAM) praktiziert und fuer die Schachtanlage Konrad geplant. Schwach kontaminierte Abfaelle koennen zur konventionellen Deponierung bzw. Vebrennung oder auch zur Wieder- oder Weiterverwertung freigegeben werden; die Verwertung findet Anwendung insbesondere bei kontaminierten Metallen und Gebaeuden. Fuer diese Entsorgungswege werden die Grundprinzipien und Dosiskonzepte beschrieben und die Ergebnisse dargestellt. Insbesondere die juengeren Konzepte werden detaillierter in ihrer Modellstruktur und ihren Berechnungsverfahren beschrieben. Die Abfallentsorgung in Deutschland wird mit internationalen Konzepten verglichen. (orig.)
