Description
Based on 300 scientific papers, the following bibliographical research deals with the fate of micropollutants (pathogens, heavy metals, organic pollutants) during anaerobic digestion. Different biological and chemical mechanisms allow organic compounds elimination, except from some Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) and heavy metals which are fixed to the solid biomass, permitting water contamination risks attenuation. Unlike mesophilic digestion, thermophilic digestion is a 'sanitation' process regarding pathogens elimination. However, mesophilic digestion offers an important reliability compared with competitive or complementary processes. In particular, energy recovery from anaerobic digestion allows temperature control and makes easier further sanitation heat treatments. In general, anaerobic digestion represents a tool which can be included in an organic waste treatment line assuming waste selection and good agricultural practices. Otherwise, sanitation problem is still badly handled by waste operators and constructors which have been consulted. Research orientations seem especially interesting in improving knowledge of real industrial processes performances. (authors)
Abstract (French)
La recherche documentaire presentee ici s'appuie sur plus de 300 articles traitant du devenir des micropolluants (germes pathogenes, metaux, micro-polluants organiques) au cours de la digestion anaerobie. Differents mecanismes biologiques et chimiques permettent l'elimination des composes organiques, tandis que certains Hydrocarbures Aromatiques Polycycliques et les metaux lourds sont fixes dans la biomasse solide, attenuant les risques de contamination des eaux. La digestion thermophile est un procede hygienisant du point de vue des germes pathogenes, a la difference des procedes mesophiles. Ceux-ci offrent cependant une fiabilite importante par rapport aux procedes complementaires ou concurrents, et leur emploi reste donc pertinent. La disponibilite en energie, notamment, permet de maitriser la regulation de la temperature, et facilite l'utilisation de traitements thermiques hygienisants. D'une facon generale, la digestion anaerobie constitue un outil, qui s'inscrit dans une chaine de gestion de produits organiques: de la selection des produits a traiter, aux bonnes pratiques agricoles. Par ailleurs, la problematique de l'hygienisation est encore mal apprehendee par les constructeurs et exploitants consultes. Des pistes de recherche semblent interessantes, notamment en ameliorant les connaissances des performances reelles des installations industrielles. (auteurs)Files
