  • 1. Division of Remote Handling and Robotics, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai (India)
  • 2. Nuclear Fuels, Automation and Manufacturing Group, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai (India)

Description

Indian nuclear programme includes nuclear power generation, operation of research reactors, fuel fabrication, management of radioactive waste, reprocessing of spent fuel, fabrication of fuel containing plutonium and uranium 233, production of radioisotopes, use of isotopes for industrial and medical applications, irradiation of food products etc. Activities therefore include design and construction of reactors and other facilities (for fuel fabrication, reprocessing, waste management, etc.), operation of facilities and reactors, maintenance and decontamination. A stage has now been reached when even decommissioning of facilities has to be considered. Post irradiation examination of fuel and reactor hardware is vital for assessment of various parameters. Handling of radioactive materials and performing tasks in hostile radioactive environments is a daily requirement
