Description
The results have been compared of assessing the resistance to hydrogen embrittlement for three types of steels used in nuclear engineering (20Mn, 10MnNi2Mo and 20Cr2.5MoV). Following electrolytical hydrogen charging, threshold stress values σsub(iH) were determined on smooth samples and values of stress intensity factor Ksub(ISH) were determined on samples with notch. Based on the combination of stress and the size of permissible cracks, safety zones were constructed defining resistance against crack propagation and against total sample disruption. Using this method it is possible to link the evaluation of steel resistance against hydrogen embrittlement using the two said criteria (σsub(iH) and Ksub(ISH)). It was found that the σsub(iH) values approximately correspond to the value of the yield limit for the studied steels. (Ha)
