Description

The influence of different amounts of boron in PM AISI 316L stainless steel on its microstructure and mechanical properties were studied with reference to sintering atmosphere, heating rate, temperature and time. During sintering in hydrogen, if the amount of boron, heating rate and sintering temperature are correctly chosen, both a significant improvement in pores morphology and near full density can be obtained and in turn mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of sintered pieces are strongly increased.
