Measures for restoration of the installations damaged by the oil fire in the nuclear power plant, Muehleberg

This contribution deals with the investigations carried out into the chemical and thermal effects on buildings and installations of the fumes given off by the oil and PVC fire in the Nuclear Power Plant Muehleberg. The heat generated by the burning of two tons of turbine oil and fifty kilometres of PVC covered cable and the HCl content of the smoke fumes give rise to the presumption that considerable consequential damage was to be anticipated. The basis of the investigations, their results and the subsequent conclusions are set-out by the authors, who also furnish details on the cleaning and restoration measures necessitated. (orig.)
