Electron valence configurations of iodine from the chemical shift of X-ray emission lines and the Moessbauer effect

  • 1. AN SSSR, Leningrad. Inst. Yadernoj Fiziki

Description

The chemical shifts of the Ksub(α1) and Ksub(β1) X-ray lines of a number of iodine compounds were measured. Self-consistent Dirac-Slater calculations were performed for 22 electron configurations of the iodine ion, and the chemical shift of X-ray lines with regard to the 5s2p5 configuration were computed as well as the electron density at the nucleus. Correlations were performed between the chemical shifts and valence configuration on the one hand, and between valence configuration and the electron density at the nucleus obtained from experimental values of Moessbauer isomer shift on the other. A comparison of numerical results made it possible to determine the valence configurations for the elements investigated. (A.K.)
