Comparison between two methods of quantitative determination of fluorine

Description
A comparison is made between two methods of determination of fluorine: prompt γ-ray analysis and spectrophotometrical determination. Both techniques are applied for the quantitative analysis of fluorine in glasses and micas. The results are compared and a statistical analysis is presented: a good agreement is observed. The two techniques are found to be of comparable accuracy and sensitivity, each having its own advantages. Measurements were made by means of the 3 MeV Van de Graaf accelerator of the Facultes Universitaires of Namur. A 2 MeV proton beam strikes the target inducing γ-ray emission from the 19F/p, psup(,)γ/19F reaction. γ-ray energies are 110 and 197 keV, detected with a Ge(Li) detector. (T.I.)
