Calcitonin, ch. 20
Description
The radioimmunoassay of calcitonin is described. A modification of the chloramine-T method is used to label the hormone with 131I. Purification is performed by QUSO granules followed by centrifugation. The requirements for the incubation mixtures are described. Bound and free-labelled hormones are separated by dextran-coated charcoal. Sensitivity, specificity and reproducibility are discussed. A comparison with biological methods is made. Measurements in normal human serum and in serum of several patients are made
