Studies on the relationship between the effective dose and surface exposure dose in X-ray personnel

Poland's system of individual dose monitoring of persons occupationally exposed to ionization radiation is based on determining the surface exposure dose registered on a film badge in a holder worn on the laboratory coat at the chest's height. The real hazard from the ionization radiation is reflected, however, in the effective total body dose. The paper presents the relationship between the effective dose and the surface exposure dose as a function of the energy of the scattered radiation to which the personnel is mostly exposed. The effective dose amounts to 35% of the surface exposure dose. (author)
