Energy of a fluctuating electromagnetic field near a semi-bounded plasma

  • 1. Institute of Theoretical Physics, Kiev (Ukraine)

Description

General relations are obtained for correlation functions of electromagnetic fields near a half-bounded plasma, with account of intrinsic thermal fields of plasma and ambient medium radiation. Spectral energy density distributions of the fluctuation electromagnetic field in the ambient transparent medium were found with regard to the temperature of this medium and the zero-level field fluctuations inside it. It is shown that, near the interface, the low-frequency range energy density is frequency-independent. It is determined instead by the distance from the interface and the plasma system parameters. There is a resonance in the vicinity of the surface oscillation eigenfrequency. This resonance is due to the excitation of system surface eigenoscillations. 21 refs., 3 figs
