General considerations on the use of radio-active substances for the study of lung tumours
Description
Among the numerous substances proposed for the study of lung tumours, three are more commonly used, 67Ga, 57Co labelled bleomycin and 197Hg. With these three substances, the uptake is high on malignant tumours and also on active inflammatory lesions, it is normal in the case of benign tumours and cooled inflammatory lesions. In spite of this lack of specificity in carcinoma, these three radio-active substances are useful in practice for they permit to distinguish benign from malignant tumours, often they permit to make the diagnosis of cancer with a high degree of probability and, finally, they are of use in permitting, for example, to judge the efficiency of treatment. Abstract (French)
Parmi les nombreuses substances proposees pour l'etude des tumeurs pulmonaires, trois sont plus particulierement utilisees: le 67Ga, la bleomycine 57Co et le 197Hg. Avec ces trois substances, la fixation est elevee sur les tumeurs malignes et aussi sur les lesions inflammatoires evolutives, elle est normale sur les tumeurs benignes et les lesions inflammatoires peu evolutives. Malgre ce manque de specificite pour le cancer, ces trois produits radioactifs sont utiles en pratique, car ils permettent de distinguer les tumeurs benignes des tumeurs malignes, souvent ils permettent de faire un diagnostic de haute probabilite de cancer, et enfin devraient rendre des services en permettant par exemple de juger l'efficacite des therapeutiques.
