Alternative fabrication techniques for A15 multifilamentary superconductors
Description
The technology for producing Nb3Sn and to a lesser degree V3Ga multifilamentary composites is well developed and extensively reviewed. A brief discussion of the conventional process will underline the reasons for the increased interest in alternative fabrication technologies for producing multifilamentary conductors. The status of the development of multifilamentary high-field A15 superconductors by in situ, by powder metallurgy, cold or hot infiltration and by other processes are discussed with examples. The critical temperature, current densities, magnetic fields and the mechanical properties are presented where available and indications given on the new research and developments
