Ion scattering from solid surfaces, (1)
Description
An understanding of the interaction between an ion and a lattice atom is clearly basic to an appreciation of the observed ion-surface scattering phenomena. Especially, the differential scattering cross section which is need for the evaluation of the intensity of the scattered ions, depends strongly on the interatomic potential function used. The most widely used interatomic potential functions and some approximations to the exact scattering law--hard sphere approximation, Baroody's approximation, asymptotic trajectory approximation, matching potential approximation, and the impulse approximation--are discussed from above view points.
