On a possibility of using quadrupoles with permanent magnet in proton linear high-energy accelerators

Description

A possibility to use quadrupoles with stable magnets in proton linear accelerators is discussed. Problems concerning attaining an adequate field gradient and ensuring its stability are considered. A comparative evaluation of cast and ferrite-barium magnetorigid materials potentially useful for the quadrupoles is conducted. The ferrite-barium magnet-based quadrupoles are concluded to be superior. The quadrupole does not demand in-site magnetization of the magnet, is insensitive to eternal magnetic fields, shocks and vibrations and cheaper
