Modular elements for large solid angle detector systems
Description
The study of nuclear reactions induced by heavy ions at intermediate energy requires large solid angle detector systems, that can be conveniently assembled using modular elements based on a variety of detector types. In this talk the following points will be discussed. General features of a detector array based on silicon-silicon-plastic elements. This is a relatively simple solution suitable to detect heavy and light particles in experiments with reverse kinematics. Developments and applications of axial ionization chambers with constant or radial field, with different geometrical shapes and filling gases, these chambers can be used in the energy and atomic number identification of heavy ions, if stopped in the active volume, or as the first E section in telescope-type detector systems when a low energy threshold is necessary. The coupling with scintillators and solid state detectors is considered
