Description
We present a formal solution of the Vlasov equation for the density response function of a classical electron gas in a periodic field. This solution can be used to show that within the mean-field approximation the system is a conductor at all temperatures and for all dimensions, but that the plasmon mode at zero wave number is shifted and damped in the high-temperature limit, due to the coupling of the electrons to the ionic lattice
