MARCH 2 simulation of the power burst facility severe fuel damage scoping test

  • 1. Battelle Columbus Laboratories, Columbus, OH

Description

The improvements in the in-core radiation heat transfer and metalwater reaction models associated with MARCH 2 are described. MARCH2 includes consideration of radiation heat transfer between adjacent core nodes, from the core to structures above it, to surrounding structures such as the core barrel and thermal shield, and to water below the core. The authors note that the original versions considered only radiation from the top of the core to the first structure above it and from the first uncovered node to the water below it. Selected results of the MARCH 2 simulation of the PBF Severe Fuel Damage Scoping Test are presented
