Behavior of 137Cs during decontamination of soil from block 5 of Vasilevsky Island

Description

Behavior of 137Cs in the course of decontamination by soil washing of block 5 of Vasilievsky Island with solutions of Trilon B, HNO3 and FeCl3 was studied. The highest degree of purification (60%) was attained when equimolar amounts of FeCl3 and NH4Cl are used in solution with concentration 0.02 mol/l at liquid to solid ratio equal to 20 l/kg. The factor of cesium distribution between the soil and solution, i.e. Ds/l equals 12, actually coinciding with the one for soil from Bryansk region and being essentially lower than the values for soil from Guriev region. Differences in Ds/l are explained relying on mineral composition of the grounds
