Radiosensitivity of rice weevil, Sitophilus oryzae (L.) to gamma radiation

  • 1. G.B. Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar (India)

Description

The investigations on the effect of varying doses of gamma radiation on the eggs of Sitophilus oryzae (L.) were undertaken with a view to assess the feasibility of gamma radiation in pest management. Adult longevity and adult emergence showed radiation dose dependent inverse relationship whereas developmental period of S. oryzae (l.) increased with increase in gamma radiation doses. The investigations revealed that the gamma radiation can serve as a new tool for insect control programme. (author)
