Description

The Einstein equations in harmonic coordinates allow a natural iterative solution for a static field. The second-order solution for a spherically symmetrical isotropic source is expressed in quadrature. Compared with Fock's solution, the exernal solution contains an extra term in accordance with Balek's conclusion that the former cannot describe the external field of a three-dimensional body, and with his general transformation of Schwarzschild's external solution in harmonic coordinates. This transformation is expressed here in elementary functions. The exact solution of the homogeneous model is also considered. The results cast doubt on the existence of a horizon in the static field solution in harmonic coordinates. (author). 4 tabs., 5 refs
