Influence of surface preparation on adhesion of cBN layers to sintered carbides

Description
Influence of sintered carbides surface preparation on adhesion and cutting tools covered with cBN layer, life time was examined. Tools without any treatment and tools with mechanically prepared and chemically etched surface were tested. Adhesion tests and cutting tests of tools covered with cBN layers show that the best method of surface preparation is chemical etching of surface. It was found that high adhesion of cBN layers is connected with interface layer between boron and cobalt binder. (author)
