Thermodynamic and experimental study of sodium hydroxide decomposition in sodium between 430 and 5500C

  • 1. Electricite de France, Ecuelles

Description

In order to determine how long steam generator materials can stay in contact with the Na-NaOH medium following a sodium water reaction, a study was made of the decomposition of sodium hydroxide in sodium between 4300C and 5500C. The experimental conditions are described with a schematic view given. Experimental results are presented and illustrated with kinetic curves of the decomposition of NaOH given for different mixtures. Conclusions include a formula for the system of reactions, displaced to the right during hydrogen extractions
