Preliminary Analysis of Proliferation Resistance (PR) Assessment for Small Modular Reactors in the Remote Area

Description

• Expectations and interest in SMRs in terms of Climate change and energy security have increased, but SMR's Proliferation Resistance (PR) has not been adequately evaluated; also, there's no internationally agreed standard PR assessment methodology for SMRs. • Considering the high-weight attributes of MAUA and the results of the 2015 research, the paper preliminarily analyzes the PR of SMRs installed in a remote area. • NuScale SMR, X-Energy Xe-100, Holtec SMR-160, Rolls-Royce SMR, CNNC ACP100, OKBM RITM-200, and KAERI SMART were selected for PR assessment. • The paper preliminary analyzed each characteristic of SMRs in a remote area for PR assessment. But it was challenging to conclude which design has the best PR in a remote location by aggregating all the features. • The paper suggests developing an internationally agreed and integrated PR assessment methodology varying the weights for each characteristic of SMR depending on the situation for assessing the PR of SMRs.
