Fluctuations of electric and magnetic fields in strongly magnetized plasmas

  • 1. AN Ukrainskoj SSR, Kiev (Ukraine). Inst. Teoreticheskoj Fiziki

Description

A general approach to the description of fluctuations of electric and magnetic fields in plasma placed in a strong external magnetic field is developed. The dispersion is considered and the dependences of the attenuation coefficients of Alfven and magnetosonic waves on the propagation angle and parameters of plasma are analyzed. The spectral distributions of fluctuations of electric and magnetic fields in the low-frequency range of the spectrum for strongly magnetized plasmas are studied in detail and those for nonequilibrium plasmas are treated. Effective temperatures, introduced both for collective Alfven and magnetosonic fluctuations and for incoherent fluctuations in the low-frequency range, can be used as convenient parameters for the description of a nonequilibrium state of plasma in its diagnostics in facilities devised for realization of the controlled thermonuclear fusion
