An introduction to superstring theory and its duality symmetries
Description
A brief introduction to superstring theory and its duality symmetries is given. Classical relativistic strings are discussed. It is shown how to quantize the relativistic string and compute the spectrum. Type II A and type II B superstrings are introduced in the light-cone Green-Schwarz approach. Compactification and T-duality are discussed. It is described eleven-dimensional supergravity and a simple argument for the S-duality symmetry of the type II B superstring is given
