The possibility of using the burnup as a parameter for storage facilities and transport packaging casks with spent nuclear fuels, enabling to increase the capacity of storage facilities and packages and to substantiate them with initial enrichment growth, is considered. The problems affecting nuclear safety when using the burnup and methods for their solution are considered
