Description

On the flow cytometric and electron microscopic study of blood cells in children with papillary thyroid cancer, who lived near the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Station, we revealed a decrease in the number and changes in the ultrastructure of T-lymphocytes (CD3+ cells), T-helpers (CD4+ cells), and NK cells (CD56+cells) as well as eosinophilia. We suggest that the impairment of T-cellular and natural immunity may be a promoting factor of the malignant transformation of thyrocytes induced by radioiodine
