Description

The yield of repciprocial translocations (RT) in spermatogonia of rats after irradiation with 9 GeV protons, 4 GeV helium ions and gamma rays from 60Co is investigated. Higher dose (4 Gy) has been used only for protons. The cytogenic analysis shows lower yield of RT compared to irradiation with 3 Gy. The yield/dose (Y/D) correlation in all three types of radiation is described as linear in the dose range 0.5-3 Gy: Y=0.04+(2.84±0.24)D - for 9 GeV protons, Y=0.20+(2.37±0.09)D - for 4 GeV helium ions and Y=0.02+(1.58±0.3)D - for gamma-rays. The relative biological effectiveness determined on the base of these equations is 1.8 for protons and 1.5 for helium ions. 1 fig., 1 tab., 19 refs
