Duoplasmatron development at GSI 1976/77

Description

At the Gatlinburg conference, 1975, we presented a new duoplasmatron modification as source for multiply charged noble gas ions which has since been used for regular duty on the GSI accelerator Unilac. The recent development of this source described in the present paper can be devided into three branches: 1) Improvement of lifetime and reliability of the noble gas source. 2) Processing of aggressive gases and vapours. 3) Application of the ion sputtering technique in order to obtain ions from solids. Abstract (German)

Bei der Gatlinburg-Konferenz 1975 stellten wir eine neue Duoplasmatron-Modifikation als Quelle fuer mehrfach geladene Edelgasionen vor, die seither in regelmaessigem Einsatz am GSI-Beschleuniger Unilac benutzt wurde. Die in dieser Veroeffentlichung beschriebene neue Entwicklung dieser Quelle kann in drei Abschnitte gegliedert werden: 1) Verbesserung der Lebensdauer und der Zuverlaessigkeit der Edelgasquelle. 2) Verarbeitung von aggressiven Gasen und Daempfen. 3) Anwendung der Ionenzerstaeubungstechnik um Ionen von Festkoerpern zu erhalten.
