Hardware processing of data from multilayer ionization detectors
Description
A dedicated hardware processor for calculating the mean of a variable proportion of the smallest ionization values from multilayer proportional counters is described. The total readout and execution time is below 3 ms for a set of 128 (8-bit) ionization values. Results of a 32-layer test are presented demonstrating the efficiency of this cut-off method applied to an asymmetric distribution of the ionization losses. (Auth.)
