How Sandia's automated on-line monitoring system can cut emergency diesel costs

Creators

Description

Sandia National Laboratories has developed a system that could reduce the need for additional back-up power equipment at nuclear power plants by automatically monitoring the starting ability of emergency diesel generators. The equipment has arisen out of US DoE efforts on nuclear plant life extension, which have been looking at predicting equipment performance as a means of reducing equipment surveillance testing, maintenance and malfunctions.
