Radioisotopic (Cs137) estimation of erosion rates in a steep, pristine, and highly weathered volcanic rainforest catchment in Costa Rica

Description

The concentration of radioactive isotope Cs137 was analyzed in the soil of the micro-basin, using the high-resolution gamma spectrometry method, in order to establish erosion and soil accumulation rates through the temporal dating of the material and determining biogeophysical factors. The basin of the study has presented high levels of concentration of Cs137 for the estimation of the redistribution of the soil. The maximum isotope concentration values were determined at depths of 9 cm on average. A variable dynamics is presented due to being within a humid tropical forest, water is the means of redistribution of the soil
