Interpretation of data on γ-ray multiplicity in deep inelastic reactions
Description
Typical experimental results on the γ-ray multiplicity M/sub γ/ in deep inelastic reactions induced by heavy ions are analyzed. The experimental dependences of M/sub γ/ on the emission angle, the kinetic energy, and the atomic number of the product are used to estimate the partial angular momenta of the various forms of the regular rotational motion of a double nuclear system. In order to explain the values of M/sub γ/ corresponding to the low-energy part of the spectrum of the reaction products it is necessary to assume that a significant role is played by the intrinsic angular momentum acquired by the reaction products as a result of rupture of a strongly deformed system, in addition to the angular momentum due to the regular rotational motion
