Absolute γ-ray intensities from 127Xe decay

  • 1. Idaho National Engineering Lab., Idaho Falls (USA)

Description

From relative and absolute γ-ray emission rates measured with Ge(Li) detectors, precise branching ratios have been determined for the γ rays from the decay of 127Xe (36.4 days). The results indicate that a calibrated 127Xe can be used to determine the absolute efficiency of a Ge(Li) detector to 1 to 2% at 202 keV and approximately 3% at several other energies. From the information shown tabulated it is recommended that a value of (68.3 +- 0.5)% for the branching ratio of the 202-keV γ ray be adopted. (U.K.)
