Eddy-current testing as a tool for post-irradiation examination

  • 1. Kraftwerk Union A.G., Erlangen (Germany, F.R.)

Description

Eddy-current testing is a standard technique used by KWU for post-irradiation examination (PIE) in the spent fuel pool as well as in the Hot Cells. An encircling coil is used for the detection of imperfections and defects in the cladding material of LWR fuel rods and other core components. A newly developed eddy-current probe technique is used for the determination of oxide layer thickness on LWR fuel rods and flow channels. Both systems are described and the results obtained are presented. (author)
