Corrosion of hafnium in chloride and chloride-fluoride melts
- 1. AN SSSR, Apatity (USSR). Inst. Khimii i Tekhnologii Redkikh Ehlementov i Mineral'nogo Syr'ya
Description
Hafnium corrosion in chloride (NaCl-KCl) and chloride-fluoride (including potassium hexafluorohafnate) melts at the temperatures 973-1073 K is studied. It is shown that the rate of Hf corrosion in both melts are comparable that points out the absence Hf interaction with a complex ion [HfF6]2-. Hf corrosion increases with temperature and NaF content increase. Electrochemical corrosion mechanism controlled by the diffusion of ions of the oxidant and reaction products in the melt, is proved
