Description

Hafnium corrosion in chloride (NaCl-KCl) and chloride-fluoride (including potassium hexafluorohafnate) melts at the temperatures 973-1073 K is studied. It is shown that the rate of Hf corrosion in both melts are comparable that points out the absence Hf interaction with a complex ion [HfF6]2-. Hf corrosion increases with temperature and NaF content increase. Electrochemical corrosion mechanism controlled by the diffusion of ions of the oxidant and reaction products in the melt, is proved
