Meson properties at finite density from SU(3)/sub f/ quark dynamics

  • 1. Center for Theoretical Physics, Laboratory for Nuclear Science dge, Massachusetts 02139

Description

We investigate the properties of pseudoscalar and scalar mesons and the quark condensates at finite density in the context of a generalized three-flavor Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model. As in a previous study of the two-flavor case, the decrease of the scalar-meson mass with increasing density suggests a softening of the nuclear equation of state. The axial U(1) anomaly is not affected by density as signaled by a constant mass of the eta'. We furthermore discuss some properties of the scalar mesons at zero density
