Support project for reconstruction of Kawamata-machi by ALL KINDAI cooperation

  • 1. Kindai University, Atomic Energy Research Institute, Higashi-Osaka, Osaka (Japan)

Description

The 'ALL-KINDAI' Kawamata-machi reconstruction support project is a cross-faculty project that makes use of the research capability of Kindai University as a comprehensive university that has 14 faculties and 48 departments. This project was launched to support the early recovery of Kawamata-machi (some areas of which are designated as restricted residence areas and evacuation order cancellation preparation areas as of February 2017). Reconstruction support measures proposed by Kindai University teaching staff were assigned to the four groups: (1) support for agriculture/industry/town development promotion, (2) support for decontamination promotion, (3) support for health, mental and physical care, and (4) support for radiation/radioactivity measurement. The project was started in full scale on May 31, 2013, while incorporating the will of the townspeople of Kawamata. From both the 'reconstruction support' such as revitalization of local agricultural industry and development of education/culture, and the 'restoration support' from the disaster such as decontamination research and health management, this project is performing the support while considering townspeople's opinions.
