Some methods for SPECT uniformity correction and their evaluation
Description
The importance of uniformity correction in the SPECT image quality cannot be overemphasized. An efficient interactive algorithm for the generation of uniformity correction coefficients has been developed by utilizing smoothing and window functions. An optimal number of counts required for SPECT uniformity correction has been analyzed. A relationship between SPECT uniformity information and image quality has been mathematically defined. These investigations have demonstrated the usefulness of smoothing and windowing for the uniformity correction. It has also been noticed that electronic or system noise is a dominating factor in the RMS error after a certain limit in the number of counts of flood data
