A small town in Germany

Despite widespread support for solar power, Germany does not yet manufacture solar cells. However, the recent opening of the Bayer Solar GmbH factory which will produce multi-crystalline silicon wafers, one of the raw materials of solar cells, is viewed as an auspicious step towards building a solar power manufacturing industry. Operations at the Freiberg factory are described briefly and potential applications for its products explored. (UK)
