Seaports as turntables for sustainability. Policy memo Sustainable Seaports

Description

Dutch seaports are expected to operate at top level worldwide with regard to their quality of service. Sustainable development of the seaports is an essential prerequisite to achieve this. Therefore the Dutch government will cooperate with decentralized authorities, port managers, enterprises linked to the Dutch ports, knowledge institutes and societal groups to increase the sustainability of the Dutch seaports. The following five themes are focuses upon in this effort: air quality; energy, CO2 and residual flows; spatial use; environmental conservation and development; water quality and management. [mk]

Abstract (Dutch)

De Nederlandse zeehavens moeten wereldwijd tot de top behoren in de kwaliteit van hun dienstverlening. Een duurzame havenontwikkeling is daarbij een noodzakelijke voorwaarde. Daarom werkt de rijksoverheid de komende jaren samen met decentrale overheden, havenbeheerders, havengerelateerd bedrijfsleven, kennisinstellingen en maatschappelijke groeperingen verder aan de verduurzaming van de Nederlandse zeehavens. Focus van deze inzet zijn de volgende vijf thema's voor verduurzaming: luchtkwaliteit; energie, CO2 en reststromen; ruimtegebruik; natuurbehoud en -ontwikkeling; waterkwaliteit en -beheer
