The concentration of (239+240)Pu in ground-level air in northern Germany from 1963 to 1977

Description
Measuring results of the average activity concentration of (239+240)Pu in ground-level air in northern Germany in the course of time are presented together with values as calculated with a constant, characteristic nuclear weapons fallout relation of (239+240)Pu/137Cs to close measurement gaps until 1985. For the years of 1985 to 1992 measurement values from Berlin exist, showing the influence of the Chernobyl fallout in April/May 1986. Average (239+240)Pu activity concentrations in quarterly samples measured from 1990 to 1997 in Brunswik show the development of the recent years. The activity ration of 238Pu/(239+240)Pu in these quarterly samples gives values of about 0.14 to 0.18. In a few samples, a ratio above 0.4 has been measured. (orig.)
Abstract (German)
Ende letzten Jahres gab es eine oeffentliche Diskussion ueber die Herkunft von Plutonium und Americium, die im Staub von Dachboeden aus Haeusern in der Elbmarsch nachgewiesen wurden. Als Quelle wurden entweder der Kernwaffen-Fallout oder das Kernkraftwerk (KKW) Kruemmel genannt. Auf einen moeglichen Beitrag aus dem Unfall im KKW Tschernobyl hat die Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) bereits in einer Pressemitteilung hingewiesen. Die Diskussion gab Anlass, bereits publizierte Messwerte ueber den Plutonium-Gehalt in der bodennahen Luft in Norddeutschland gemeinsam mit neuen Daten zusammenfassend fuer die letzten 35 Jahre darzustellen.
