Determination of neutron characteristics of the intermediate-energy secondary standard spectrum system: ΣΣ-ITN

Description

A synthesis of the results obtained by the Institute of Nuclear Power Reactors on the line of promoting internationally a standard neutron spectrum necessary as a reference spectrum in neutronic measurements which are performed in fast and testing material reactors is presented. The ΣΣ-ITN system, in operation from 1974, was tested by measurements of flux, reaction rates and spectral indexes as well. It has been demonstrated its identity with similar systems: ΣΣMol Belgium (CEN/SCK), NISUS England (Imperial Coll.-London). The ΣΣ reference system has permitted the validation of integral cross-sections (averaged on spectrum) for the main fissionable and non-fissionable isotopes used in measurements of neutron dosimetry performed in reactors.
