Status of K2K (KEK to Kamioka Long Baseline Neutrino Oscillation Experiment)

Description

The purpose of K2K (KEK-PS E362) experiment is to draw a definite conclusion on the neutrino oscillations with squared mass differences Δm2 below 10-2 eV2. The experiment uses a well-defined muon neutrino (νμ) beam produced at the KEK-PS and two detectors, including the existing Super-Kamiokande detector. The experiment will be sensitive to the νμ → νe and νμ → ντ oscillations, Δm2 ≥ 3 x 10-3 eV2 with more than the 99% confidence level for large mixing angle.
