Description

The kinetic parameters of the corrosion rates of iron electrodes in the Fe/Fe2+ system, in the presence of salicylic acid as inhibitor, using 59Fe tracer. The solution and accumulation rates were measured under identical conditions. From the 59Fe accumulation on the surface of the iron electrode, the cathodic partial process rate for Fe(II) ions were calculated. The corrosion rates were obtained from the amount of a corroded iron. The inhibitor effect was shown to be resulting from the inhibition of the anodic partial process. The tracer technique presented were can also be used to the surface concentration and distribution of the inhibitor, in addition to the measurement of the anodic and cathodic partial process rates at the interface between the electrolyte and metal electrode.
